Classic Puffin Tour

Your expert bird watching guide will tell you all that you wish to know about the birds and their surroundings. Our tours offer an intimate and enjoyable adventure on a smaller, family-friendly boat and provide a unique opportunity to observe puffins from late April to Mid-August.  By commenting on their behaviours, explaining their life histories and detailing the struggles they face living in the North Atlantic, our knowledgable crew share interesting stories about our feathered friends.

The summer is the best time to experience the birds and wildlife of the bay and islands outside Reykjavík city. See Iceland's cutest and toughest little birds, the puffins, in their natural habitat on the islands of Engey, Akurey or Lundey. Also see an incredible variety of sea birds living side by side on these little islands just of the coast of Reykjavík. Species include the majestic gannets, the plucky razorbills, the proud cormorants, the world traveling arctic tern and the list goes on and on. The summer skies are full of life making if the perfect time to explore the bay and visit the birds.

The tour starts from our ticket office at the Old Harbour with up to 4 daily departures. The Harbour is conveniently located within walking distance of most hotels in Reykjavík (and for this tour we also offer return transfer for an additional fee).

Additionally, there's a possibility of spotting other wildlife, such as seals, adding to the excitement of the tour.  If the weather allows, the engines might be turned off, enhancing your experience by letting you fully immerse yourself in the natural sounds of the birds and the environment. This tour is designed to offer a comfortable and memorable way to enjoy Iceland’s stunning wildlife, only a few minutes away from the city centre of Reykjavík.

Since the birds are quite petite, we suggest bringing a good zoom lens for capturing high quality, close-up photos. Binoculars are also available to borrow on board if needed.
